Methods in Spatial Analysis: Spatial Interpolation

Spatial interpolation is based on the idea that nearby locations are more similar to each other than distant locations, as stated in Tobler’s First Law of Geography: “Everything is related to everything else, but near things are more related than distant things.” In other words, spatial autocorrelation, or the similarity between nearby locations, is necessary for interpolation to be effective.
